Biography


Daniel R. Tishman
Member of the Board of Directors, Treasurer

Daniel R. Tishman is Chairman & CEO of Tishman Construction Corporation and fourth-generation owner and President of Tishman Realty & Construction Co., Inc., which combined, comprise one of the nation’s largest and most active builders and developers. He is responsible for the companies’ overall activities and operations across the United States, in Europe, and in the Caribbean, on a diverse roster of projects totaling more than $4 billion.

The original Tishman organization-Tishman Realty & Construction Co., Inc.-was founded by Dan’s great-grandfather, Julius, in 1898 and has been developing and building across the country ever since. As Construction Manager in recent years, Dan was personally in charge of building the Conde Nast Headquarters at 4 Times Square for the Durst Organization, the Reuters/Instinet Headquarters at 3 Times Square for co-developers Reuters and the Rudin family, the LVMH Tower on 57th Street for Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, and 745 Seventh Avenue for Morgan Stanley Dean Witter and Rockefeller Group Development Corporation.

Dan was also in charge of building the new 860-room, $300-million Westin New York at Times Square for his company’s own portfolio. He is currently in charge of construction for the new 7 World Trade Center and Freedom Tower for Silverstein Properties, and various projects for Verizon, Morgan Stanley, Bank of New York, and Bank of America, to name a few.

Dan has a broad background in real estate development, planning, design and construction, with a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability and energy conservation. This is a result of his life-long concern and interest in the environment, combined with his formal education, which includes a Master of Science in Environmental Studies from Lesley College Graduate School and a Bachelor of Science in Ecology and Planning from Evergreen State College.

Dan’s support of organizations and efforts important to our society and planet are diverse and long-standing. In addition to his role in the International Freedom Center, he is on the Board of Trustees of the Natural Resources Defense Council, on the Advisory Council of the American Museum of Natural History’s Center for Biodiversity and Conservation, on the Board of Governing Trustees of The Jackson Laboratories and serves as the Chairman of the New York Division of Israel Bonds, a member of the Executive Committee of United Jewish Appeal, and the Board of Governors of the Real Estate Board of New York, the Executive Committee of the New York Building Congress, and the Board of Overseers for Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
