Biography


Philip B. Kunhardt III
Editorial Director

Philip Kunhardt was writer and producer of the PBS series “Freedom: A History of US” (2003), which served as one of the inspirations for the creation of The International Freedom Center. In his role as Editorial Director of the IFC, he is coordinating outreach to the scholarly and international communities.

Mr. Kunhardt was writer and producer of ABC’s “Lincoln” (1991) and the ten hour PBS series “The American President” (1999). Among his other credits are “The People’s Palace” (for PBS), “Only Human” (a series for Discovery), “Mary Lincoln: The Insanity Files” (for Discovery), “Barnum” (for Discovery), “Violence: An American Tradition” (for HBO), “Echoes From the White House” (for PBS), “The Kennedy Tapes Revealed” (for Bravo), and “Mandate: The President and the People” (for PBS). He is the co-author of three books: Lincoln: An Illustrated Biography (1992), P.T. Barnum: America’s Greatest Showman (1995), and The American President (1999).

A long time trustee of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York, Mr. Kunhardt is an ordained Episcopal minister. He is married to Margaret S. Kunhardt. They are the parents of four children.
