Response from Tom Bernstein, Chairman and Co-founder of the International Freedom Center, to statement today by Governor Pataki
We agree that the Memorial and the Memorial Center must be the centerpiece of a re-developed World Trade Center site.
We share the commitment of the Governor and 9/11 families to preserving the sanctity of the Memorial site. Our programming must, and will, respect those lost on September 11th, and honor the country we all love.
We remain deeply committed to establishing the International Freedom Center as an integral part of the living memorial. We are confident that we can create such an institution. That institution must, and will, honor humanity’s march toward freedom and highlight America’s role as a beacon for freedom throughout the world.
We look forward to continuing active and constructive dialogue with 9/11 family members as we develop our programming. We expect shortly to submit to LMDC a plan consistent with LMDC’s requirements and those of the Governor.
